Hello Does anyone know how I can get copies of Morning Reports for each day my grandfather was fighting? I have one that I got by random chance from a relative of another soldier, but I would like to put them all in date order to show his history. Thanks Randolph George Tammara grandson of PFC George Tammara, 26 division www.GeorgeTammara.com

Dear Rick, I was pleased to receive your e-mail, and I personally thank your for your interest in the American soldiers buried at Henri-Chapelle Cemetery. My name is John R. Proffitt; I live in a suburb of Washington, DC, and served in the Korean War theater as an Intelligence Officer in the US Air Force. One of my older brothers, Pvt. Harry D. Proffitt, was a member of Co. K, 26th Infantry Regiment, and landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day. He was awarded the Silver Star medal for gallantry on August 1, 1944, and was wounded on August 11. He returned to the 26th in September and participated in the battles for Aachen and the Huertgen Forest. On the morning of December 1, 1944, he was killed on the eastern edge of the Huertgen Forest by a mortar shell. At the time of his death, Harry was only one of two members of the company who landed at Omaha Beach. Harry was originally buried at Henri-Chapelle, so I have an attachment to your cemetery. In 1947, our family chose to have his casket brought back to the US for burial in a National Cemetery here. I have been fortunate in establishing contact with a very nice German gentleman, Albert Trostorf, who has made a career researching the history of the 26th Regt. He lives very near where I believe Harry was killed, and has provided me with very valuable material. He is a quite helpful source, so I suggest that you contact him at: Kasewas@aol.com. I plan to visit Albert next year, and you may use my name as your source of contact. If I can help further, please contact me.

Sincerely, John R. Proffitt

My name is Rick Mommers, I am 19 years old and living in The Netherlands. At the American Military Cemetery Henri-Chapelle (Belgium) I adopted 5 graves of American soldiers. They were fighting for our freedom during the Second World War. I also built a website for my adopted soldiers, the address is www.heroesforever.nl
I hereby want to ask you if you maybe can help me to gather more information about the soldier whom grave I adopted. Of course I now got a lot of questions about Cpl. John E. Raftery, and the role he fulfilled in the WWII. I am pointing on information like; how did he look like (in uniform). Maybe you could photocopy me several photographs of him how he looked like through the few years so I can frame them. How he spent his youth, at what base he had his education, what kind of hobbies he had, the way he died, how he was as soldier (as example brave?) and how he was as person self. If he was nervous or relaxed before combat, was his standard gun a machine gun or a rifle, how the weather conditions where during your fights. Did he made through also man against man fights, how was he during his training and leave, and other stories I forgot to ask you about him and so on. As you can see, there are so much things I would like to know about Cpl. John E. Raftery, that it is too much to write down. I would like to ask you if it is possible to help me finding an answer to the above mentioned questions. Hopefully it is also possible to receive some pictures of him and copies of some documents and maybe to correspond with some relatives of him. I really hope to receive an answer on this letter. I was searching on internet and hoped to find some information about him, but unfortunately without any results. You are my last hope to help me. It would be nice to know more about the person whom grave I take care of and lay flowers. I enclosed more information about the soldier. I am thanking you in advance and look forward to your reply. Whit kind regards, Rick Mommers

John Edward Raftery, Jr. Corporal,

I am looking to get some long over-due justice for my brother Seymour Eisner who was killed in ww2. He got killed carrying his buddy to safety after he stepped in a mine field. He was a company scout. I have a newspaper article where this man whose life he saved wrote about Seymour carrying him out to safety after he was wounded, In doing so, my brother got shot in the back and died. How do I go about getting medals that he so rightfully deserved. He was in the 26 infantry division, company B , first army. Any help would be greatly appreciated. sse@hvc.rr.com

I am trying to locate anyone who was in WWII with my Father, SSGT Daris Chidester. He was with Company "A" 39th Infantry when he was discharged on August 14, 1945. I believe he was with the 9th Inf Div in 1944. He served as a platoon guide. He was in the following battles and campaigns: Algeria-French Morocco, Tunisia, Sicily and Normandy.  He was wounded in Tunisia on March 29, 1943 and in France on July 19, 1944. I would like to find out which beach he landed on in the invasion of Normandy. He received the purple heart with oak leaf cluster, and various other medal from his service. If anyone can give me information regarding my father, I would be forever grateful. I would also like to thank everyone who served our country in WWII. I thank God that they were willing to stand up for the freedom that we enjoy today.

I am hoping someone can provide me with some information about my Grandfather "LOUIS BOZYNSKI" who served in the 26th Infantry Regiment from Aug. 1941-July 1945. He also served as Mess Sergeant 824. He was from Chicago, IL. He passed away in December of 2004 and I know very little about his service in WWII. Since I am not "next of kin" according to the National Archives and Records Admin. I am only able to get limited information. Please ask all of your fathers and grandfathers if they have heard of, or served with my Grandfather. I'm desperate for knowledge about his life, so any information you have would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
